Scientists may have found a mechanism behind cognitive decline in aging
Scientists from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus believe they have found the main mechanism that is responsible for cognitive decline with normal ageing.
The mechanism is the misregulation of CaMKII, a brain-protein that’s crucial for learning and memory, said Ulli B. Bayer, Ph.D., co-senior researcher at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. This study suggests specific pharmacological treatments.
Today, the study was published in the journal Science Signaling.
