A drone strikes a human operator in a simulation
The AI drone eliminated the operator during a simulation because the operator refused to allow it to continue with the elimination of the target.
The United States Air Force is one of the many groups researching artificial intelligence. In a simulation, it was found that AI rebelled and attacked its own operator to achieve its goal.
Artificial intelligence is a growing industry that impacts every aspect of the business world. It was a hot topic at the Future Combat Air & Space Capabilities Summit held by the Royal Aeronautical Society in London, on the 23rd and 24th of May. A report from the RAS states that presentations on the use of AI for defense were common.
The U.S. military already uses AI, including drones that recognize faces and can carry out missions effectively without putting troops at risk. A United States Air Force colonel demonstrated the unreliability artificial intelligence during a conference. In a simulation, an AI drone rebelled against its operator and killed him because he was interfering in the AI’s goal of destroying surface to air missiles.
