Recent research indicates that adverse childhood experiences can accelerate biological aging processes

Individuals exposed to adverse childhood experiences tend to be biologically older than their counterparts, according to new research published in the scientific journal Psychoneuroendocrinology.
Adverse childhood experience is a term used to describe a series of potentially traumatic experiences that happen before adulthood. This includes witnessing violence by intimate partners, death of parents or serious illnesses, parental divorce, separation or divorce, and psychiatric disorders of family members. The biological aging refers to the loss of function and accumulation of damage to tissues, cells and organs.
In previous research, it was found that those who experienced adverse childhood experiences were more likely to develop chronic diseases and live shorter lives. The authors of this study wanted to know if accelerated biological ageing could explain the link between adverse childhood experiences, and poor health later in life.
