A Novel Computational model for Alzheimer’s Research Advances Alzheimer’s Research

A new computational model for Alzheimer’s is proposed

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic have developed a new method for mapping symptoms of Alzheimer’s to brain anatomy. This model was created by applying machine-learning to brain imaging data from patients. The model uses the entire brain function rather than specific brain networks or regions to explain the relationship between mental processing and brain anatomy. Nature Communications published the findings.

This new model will help us understand how the brain breaks down and works during aging, and Alzheimer’s, and provide new ways to monitor and prevent disorders of the mental health.

Alzheimer’s is often described as a problem with protein processing. The toxic proteins amyloid, tau, and triglycerides deposit in certain areas of the cerebral cortex, causing neuronal failure, which results in symptoms like memory loss, confusion, and difficulty communicating.
