The World Health Organization, through its Department of Ageing and Life Course has recently designated this new decade (2020-2030), as \”The Decade of Healthy Ageing\”. They see it as a great opportunity to bring governments, civil societies, international agencies and professionals together with academia, media and the private sector to work collaboratively for ten years to improve the lives of the elderly, their families and communities.
In order to support this initiative, the WHO Global Network for Age Friendly Cities and Communities was created. This network is comprised of cities and communities that are committed to creating accessible and inclusive urban environments for their ageing population.
World Health Organization Global Network
The WHO Network is a global network of cities and towns that are working to meet the needs and challenges of older people. It was created to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience between communities and cities.
