Senescent cells can be eliminated by boosting the body’s immune response to viruses
Senescent cells have stopped dividing, but they haven’t gotten the memo that it is time to die. They accumulate in the body, fueling chronic inflammation, also known as inflammaging, which can lead to cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney diseases, type 2 diabetics, cancer, and other degenerative disorders.
Longevity. Technology: Eliminating senescent aging cells in mice can lead to a healthier lifespan by restoring tissue balance. A team of investigators from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), one of the founding members at Mass General Brigham, has discovered that an immune response to the virus found in all human tissues can detect senescent skin cells and eliminate them [1].
Scientists analyzed samples of skin from young and older humans to better understand the removal of senescent cell in human tissue.
