ChatGPT, personified as an avatar of a black man with a beard on a large screen above the alter, began to preach on Friday morning, when more than 300 people had arrived for an experimental Lutheran service that was almost entirely generated by AI.
The avatar spoke with a monotone voice and expressionless face.
