AI-Driven Maritime Custody Service is Now Commercially Available
BlackSky Technology has teamed up with Spire Global to create a commercially available Maritime Custody Service. This service can detect, identify, and track over 270 thousand ships worldwide, in open water, on rivers, canals, or docked in port.
Spire’s radio-frequency monitoring satellite constellation is used to detect emissions coming from maritime targets. This includes the ability to detect dark vessels who manipulate their reported positions to hide nefarious activity. BlackSky satellites then automatically tip-and cue to collect images and analyze them using artificial intelligence. This allows for the detection of vessels, classification by type, cargo estimation, and monitoring changes over time.
Patrick O’Neil is the chief innovation officer of BlackSky. He said, \”BlackSky has developed with Spire a cost-effective service that can deliver maritime intelligence on demand at scale.\” The unique AI-driven systems reduces the end-to-end latencies across all processes, including tasking, data collection, processing and exploitation. The MCS is designed with interoperability as a priority. It provides a simple, easy-to-use, continuous, and predictive maritime tracker directly to the customer’s hands.
