AI tests in top 1% of original creative thinking
According to new research by the University of Montana, artificial intelligence is capable of matching the top 1% of humans on a standard creativity test.
The study was led by Dr. Erik Guzik. He is an assistant clinical Professor in the College of Business at UM. The Torrance Tests for Creative Thinking was used by him and his colleagues to measure creativity.
Researchers submitted eight responses created by ChatGPT. The application is powered by GPT-4’s artificial intelligence engine. The researchers also submitted responses from a group of 24 UM Students taking Guzik’s entrepreneurship and financial classes. These scores were compared to 2,700 college students who took the TTCT nationwide in 2016. Scholastic Testing Service scored all submissions, but didn’t realize AI was involved.
