AI-Powered actors: Immortalizing Hollywood legends

What if AI immortalized actors?

I don’t care about this movie because most movies are already bad and can’t get worse.

AUDREY HEPBURN DIED in 1993. In 2013, she still starred in a Galaxy chocolate bar advertisement. She was pictured riding a bus on the Amalfi Coast before catching the attention of a hunk driving a convertible. Peter Cushing reprised in 2016 his role as Grand Moff Tarkin, the villainous Grand Moff, in the Star Wars movie \”Rogue One\”. Cushing died in 1994. These resurrections aren’t new, but are rare enough to be considered newsworthy. The use of artificial intelligence and special effects is making it easier to create convincing fakes of humans.

This has raised concerns in recent months that propaganda will use technology to create videos where political figures seem to say unflattering things. In April, BuzzFeed created a video that showed Barack Obama saying, \”We are entering an age where our enemies can make anyone look like they’re saying anything at any time.\” A Belgian political group produced a fake Donald Trump video in May, where he said implausible statements about Belgium’s Climate Policy. In both cases, the video is slightly off and the voice of the impersonator. The technology is improving quickly, and a dozen AI experts have placed bets to see if a fake video can disrupt the midterm elections in America later this year. Tim Hwang, Harvard professor, oversees the wager.

The same techniques will revolutionize fiction in a completely different form, such as film and television. In the future, actors will not need to be flesh-and-blood creatures, but can exist as long strings of 1s or 0s, just like many other things that are becoming increasingly digitalised. These digital actors would wait in digital storage until they were required. There would be no more need for luxury trailers or chefs, nor would there be any make-up artists.
