Machine learning is becoming more powerful and mysterious every day. Scientists don’t understand its workings. New Scientist reported on a study that used a machine learning algorithm to determine who would die most within a year, based upon the results of echocardiograms (ECG). The algorithm was more accurate than traditional measures used by cardiologists. Researchers at Geisinger regional Healthcare group in Pennsylvania, a non-profit and low-cost provider, conducted the study.
