This AI became an expert Minecraft player using GPT-4
AI researchers have created a Minecraft bot which can explore the open world of the game and extend its capabilities. But unlike other bots, it wrote its code by trial and error using GPT-4 queries.
Voyager is a prototype of an \”embodied AI,\” i.e., an AI which can act and move freely in a real or simulated environment. Chatbots and AI personal assistants do not have to be able to navigate complex environments or perform tasks. This is exactly what a robot in the home will be expected to perform, and there has been a lot of research on how it can do this.
Minecraft is an excellent place to test these things, as it is a great representation of the world with its simple rules and physics. It’s also open and complex enough to allow for a lot to be done or tried. The purpose-built simulators can be great too, but have their limitations.
