Indian engineer creates AI model to instantly translate American Sign Language into Eng
Priyanjali, a student at Vellore Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu has developed an AI model that can translate American Sign Language to English real-time. Priyanjali, a third-year student of computer science who specialises in Data Science, developed the model using Tensorflow’s object detection API. It is able translate the signs by using transfer learning using a model that was pre-trained named ssd_mobilenet.
Gupta shared her AI model on LinkedIn, where she showed its capabilities in a video demo. According to Gupta’s Github post: \”The dataset was created manually by running an Image Collection Python script that collected images from your webcam of all the signs below in American Sign Language (Hello, I Love You Thank you, Please Yes and No).\” She also demonstrated the same in her demonstration clip.
