Amazon has developed an improved LLM for Alexa
Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, revealed yesterday that the company is developing a \”generalized and more capable\” large-language model (LLM) for Alexa. This was announced during Amazon’s earnings call for its first quarter. A deep learning algorithm, such as ChatGPT, can recognize, summarize, and create text and other content using knowledge from huge amounts of text.
Jassy stated that Amazon is currently working on a more capable LLM than the one it uses to power Alexa. Amazon’s executive believes the improved LLM will allow Amazon to achieve its goal of creating \”the world’s best personal assistant.\” However, he acknowledged that this will be challenging across multiple domains.
Jassy said during the conference call that when people ask about Alexa they often mention how much less money it would cost if we built a smart speaker. \”But we do have a vision and we are convinced that we want to create the best personal assistant in the world. It’s hard to achieve that. It covers a wide range of areas and is a large surface area. \”However, when you consider the advent of Large Language Models, and generative AI makes the underlying model that much more efficient, I think that it really accelerates that possibility of building the world’s greatest personal assistant.\”
