The new AI decoder is able to translate brainwaves in text
This is a major step in the development of brain-computer interfaces capable of decoding continuous language by non-invasive recording thoughts.
A recent study led by Jerry Tang (a doctoral student of computer science) and Alex Huth (an assistant professor of computer science and neuroscience at UT Austin), published results in the peer reviewed journal Nature Neuroscience.
The semantic decoder developed by Tang and Huth does not directly implant itself in the brain. Instead, it measures brain activity using fMRI scans. The study involved participants listening to podcasts as the AI tried to translate their thoughts into text.
