Aubrey de Grey PhD, co-founder of SENS Research Foundation
Aubrey de Grey Ph.D. Chief Science Officer and co-founder of SENS Research Foundation gives an overview of the aging process and the health issues that arise in later life.
Dr. de Grey has a high reputation in the scientific community. He is a noted biomedical geriatrician who developed the SENS platform, and founded the SENS Research Foundation with the aim of advancing it. Dr. de Grey is a respected member of the science community. He has published about his research and has been appointed as a researcher to many editorial and scientific boards. Dr. de Grey holds Fellowships with the Gerontological Society of America and the American Aging Association. He has a Ph.D. and a BA from the prestigious University of Cambridge in Biology.
Dr. de Grey talks about his career and motivations to pursue a career in research. He says that aging is the biggest medical problem because it leads to more suffering. He became interested in the topic because he felt that there was not enough research being done on aging, and all of its problems. He talks about the many excuses that are given as reasons to simply accept aging as it is, or not focus on it at all, such as \”it’s inevitable…everything ages,\” or the philosophical–\”death gives meaning to life,\” or social–\”maybe we could do this, but it would create new problems worse than the problem we are solving.\” And as the Ph.D. states, none of these excuses stand up to even the faintest scrutiny, however, they still remain quite popular.
