Bio-Inspired Molecules Have Promise for Enhancing Bone Repair in Mice

Scientists create new bio-inspired molecules that promote bone regeneration

The ability of people to regenerate bone decreases as they age, and this is further impacted by diseases like osteoporosis. Researchers are searching for new treatments that can improve bone regeneration to help the growing elderly population.

Researchers from the Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials and the Biotechnology Center of the TU Dresden, along with a team from the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden have developed bio-inspired molecules to enhance bone regeneration in mouse models. The results have been published in Biomaterials.

As we age, our ability to regenerate bone decreases. Fractures heal slower and osteoporosis makes it worse. This is a major health issue for the aging population, and a growing socioeconomic burden on society. Researchers are searching for new approaches to improve bone regeneration in order to combat this problem.
