Senescent cells can be eliminated by boosting the body’s immune response to viruses
Senescent cells have stopped dividing, but they haven’t gotten the memo that it is time to die. They accumulate in the body, fueling chronic inflammation, also known as inflammaging, which can lead to cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney diseases, type 2 diabetics, cancer, and other degenerative disorders.
Longevity. Technology: Eliminating senescent cell from aging tissue in mice can restore tissue balance, leading to an increase in healthy lifespan. A team of investigators from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), one of the founding members in Mass General Brigham, has discovered that an immune response to the virus found in all human tissues can be used to detect and eliminate skin senescent cell.
Scientists analyzed samples of skin from young and older humans to better understand the removal of senescent cell in human tissue.
