We need more outsiders to join the longevity industry
The Longevity Science Foundation was founded almost exactly one year before. It announced its ambitious goal to distribute upwards of $1 billion in funding for longevity research over the next 10 years. After a year, the foundation announced its first call for funding research applications. The topics were aging clocks and psychoedelics as they relate to longevity. Lisa Ireland was appointed president and CEO.
Longevity. Technology: It is one thing to declare that you will spend $1 billion to ensure longevity, but quite another to make it happen. Ireland’s 25 years of experience in fundraising and executive leadership roles with non-profit organizations, including United Way is the background required to ensure that the LSF keeps its promises. Ireland was interviewed to find out more about the LSF’s goals and her new perspective on longevity.
Ireland is happy to admit that she had little experience in the longevity field prior to taking up the role at LSF. She does not see it as a flaw, but rather as an opportunity to broaden the appeal of a field.
