The FDA could approve drugs faster if aging is classified as a medical condition.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), considers ageing to be a normal process. It is therefore difficult to obtain FDA approval for drugs designed to reverse or slow down the biological process. To demonstrate efficacy, drugs that target aging need to be used to treat a condition that is often caused by the aging process.
Scientists are working to convince the FDA of this growing consensus. Aging itself should be classified as disease, and a target for drug research.
