Microrobots with brains: they walk on their own
Solar-powered robots with brains smaller than an ant head, measuring 100-250 micrometers, have been fitted in a collaborative effort to enable them to walk independently without external control.
Researchers at Cornell University installed electronic brains on solar-powered bots between 100 and 250 micrometers, allowing them to walk without external control. Noel Heaney/Cornell University
Researchers at Cornell and elsewhere have developed micro-machines that can walk, crawl, and swim. But there are always \”strings attached\”; for example, to create motion, electrical current was used or laser beams needed to be focused on specific areas of the robots.
