Deepfakes in AI fuel debate among Hollywood celebrities
Hollywood’s debate over content creation and actor compensation is sparked by the growing ability of artificial intelligence to produce realistic content such as deep-fakes.
Hollywood has been divided over the use of artificial intelligence to create realistic videos. Fake movie trailers with Wes Anderson’s distinctive style, featuring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, have appeared on YouTube. These trailers were not created by Anderson or his stars, but rather, they were produced by AI. This has sparked debate amongst actors, writers and studios.

Hollywood has been divided by AI’s ability in producing this level of realistic material. Some see the potential of AI’s ability to create content, while others worry about its possible use. SAG-AFTRA (the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) is one of the groups that has expressed concerns. The actors’ union is getting ready to negotiate labor agreements with studios. AI use is one of the top issues.
