Diabetes Drugs Being Tested For Anti-Aging Benefits
Researchers are testing Acarbose, a drug commonly prescribed to treat type 2 diabetics, for its anti-aging properties. These two FDA approved drugs are proving to be very promising.
Acarbose, Metformin, and other drugs were shown to improve the health and lifespan of mice. The two drugs will now be tested on monkeys with a similar physiology and reproductive system as humans. This research is being conducted by Texas Biomedical Research Institute, which has been funded by a grant from the San Antonio Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center.
\”I believe this type of research could change the way geriatrics live,\” said Corinna ROSS, Ph.D., Associate Professor at Southwest National Primate Research Center, Texas BioMed.
