Discovery offers new insights into Telomere Biology, Aging and Cellular Aging
Researchers in Australia have discovered a new discovery regarding telomeres. This discovery may have implications on aging, heart diseases, cancer and other age related diseases.
What are Telomeres, exactly?
Telomeres are located at the ends of each chromosome that stores our genetic information. This protective cap is made up of a DNA sequence repeated thousands of time. It serves two purposes. First, it protects chromosome coding regions and prevents damage. Second, it functions as a clock to control the number of cell replications.
