Caloric Restriction and Fasting: A Review
We would like to talk about this review that was published in Science. It provides a quick tour of intermittent fasting, caloric restriction and time-restricted eating.
A large amount of evidence supports the effect of caloric restrictions and similar dietary strategies on health and longevity in multiple species. The more complex the organism is, the larger the effect, but it’s less pronounced in organisms with longer lifespans. Caloric restriction, for example, has a major impact on the lifespan of mice, but appears to have little or no effect on humans.
Why? It could be because humans have evolved repair systems which are more effective at repairing the damage caused by aging. This is in contrast to the repair systems used by mice and other species with short lifespans. Other words, the human repair system is not much different from that of mice.
