Researchers use generative AI to design novel proteins
Researchers from the University of Toronto developed a system of artificial intelligence that creates proteins not found in the natural world using generative diffusion. This is the same technology used to create popular image-creation software such as DALLE and Midjourney.
The system will advance the field generative biology which promises to accelerate drug development by making design and testing entirely new therapeutic protein more efficient and flexible.
\”Our model uses image representations to create new proteins at a high rate,\” said Philip M. Kim. He is a professor at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, U of T. \”All of our proteins seem to be biophysically true, which means they fold into configurations enabling them to perform specific functions in cells.\”
