Dr. Ann Aerts — Novartis Foundation – Transforming the health of low-income populations globally
Dr. Ann Aerts MD is the head of the Novartis Foundation, and a member of the US National Academies of Medicine Commission on Healthy Longevity.
Dr. Ann Aerts, M.D. Dr. Ann Aerts, M.D. is the Head of the Novartis Foundation. This organization is committed to improving the health of low income populations by using data, digital technology, and artificial intelligence to reinvent health and care.
Dr. Aerts has a degree in medicine, a master’s in public health from the University of Leuven in Belgium, and a tropical medicine degree from the Institute of Tropical Medicine of Antwerp in Belgium.
Dr. Aerts has a passion for improving population health using data, digital health and AI. He chairs the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development Working Group for Digital and AI in Health and he is a member the International Advisory Board for the Commonwealth Centre for Digital Health.
In 2018, Dr. Aerts was a member of US National Academies of Science Engineering and Medicine Committee on improving the quality of health care globally and sits on US National Academies of Medicine Commission on Healthy Longevity. Dr. Aerts is the author of numerous publications on digital healthcare, innovative approaches, and multi-sectoral partnerships to address global challenges.
Dr. Aerts, who now leads the Novartis Foundation was previously Franchise Medical Director Critical care for Novartis Pharma Basel as well as Therapeutic Area Head Cardiovascular & Metabolism at Novartis Pharma Belgium.
Before joining Novartis Dr. Aerts was Director of the Lung and Tuberculosis Association of Belgium and Head of the Health Services Department of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva. She also served as the Health Coordinator of the ICRC for several countries.
