Exosomes as a tool to prevent a-Synuclein aggregates is a new hope for Parkinson’s disease

New Method to Halt a-Synuclein Accumulation

Researchers at the Beijing Institute of Brain Disorders discovered a new way to use exosomes in order to deliver aptamers which prevent the accumulation of asynuclein aggregation, the cause of Parkinson’s disease.

a-Synuclein Aggregates

Parkinson’s is also characterized by an aggregation of proteins caused by the loss of proteostasis. This is one of the hallmarks associated with aging. Non-aggregated proteins of a-synuclein are required for the brain’s proper functioning. They facilitate the release dopamine in the nerve cell synapses. A-synuclein is only a problem if proteostasis fails, causing the proteins to misfold, accumulate, and aggregate.
