Google’s artificial-intelligence developers discuss the next steps in the field.
Artificial intelligence revolution is the subject of heated debate, with everyone from those who believe it will save mankind to those who are predicting its demise. Google is somewhere in the middle of this debate, introducing AI gradually so that civilization can become accustomed to it.
Demis Hassabis is the CEO of DeepMind Technologies. He has worked on AI for decades and believes it to be one of humanity’s most important inventions. Hassabis bought DeepMind from Google in 2014. The sale was partly to access Google’s enormous computing power. Brute force computing is a very rough approximation of neural networks and brain talents.
Hassabis explained that \”things like memory and imagination, planning, reinforcement-learning, are all known aspects of how the brain works, and we wanted some of this in our AI system.\”
