Explore how neural dedifferentiation varies with age in perceiving and remembering visual stimuli

Researchers examine age differences in how the brain perceives and remembers

The brains of healthy people also become less effective as they age. However, the rate at which this decline occurs varies depending on what they are doing. Understanding the factors that contribute to this decline and how it varies can give us a lot of insight into brain function.

Researchers at The University of Texas at Dallas have documented in a recent study how certain parts of the human brain respond differently to different visual inputs over time.

A team at the Center for Vital Longevity analyzed the phenomenon of neural dedifferentiation. This is when regions of the brain, which are normally specialized for performing distinct tasks, become less selective about their responses to stimuli types.
