The hallmarks of aging: deregulated nutrient sensing

In our series on the hallmarks and effects of aging we will be looking at how deregulated nutrient senses affect metabolism and aging.

Let’s first introduce four important protein groups to better understand the studies on nutrient-sensing in relation to aging. We’ll examine the pathways that they control and their effect on aging in this post. These proteins include IGF-1 and AMPK[2]. These proteins are called \”nutrient-sensing\” because their activity is affected by nutrient levels[2].
