Explore the Possibilities of Living Forever and its Implications: Technology, Politics and Ethics

What if technology caused some people to live forever?

It sounds like this is a way to say that uploaded minds could be considered superhumans, but as Minerva & Rorheim point out, it’s unclear whether they would survive in a meaningful sense, if they were copied multiple times. If not, then something that was once you may exist, and might even be cognitively superior than the average human, but their \”you-ness,\” or uniqueness, has gone.

The authors warn that \”we can be fairly certain, for example, that revitalization would widen the divide between the rich, and the poor and eventually force us to take decisive decisions about resource use, if we limit the rate at which the population grows, etc.\”

A controversy that erupted in 2012 over a paper by Dr. Alberto Giubilini and Dr. Minerva may have prompted such considerations.
