Regenerative potential of induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived from Patients Undergoing Haemodialysis for Kidney Repair
Around 2018: immortality of kidneys.
The current treatments for chronic kidney disease are limited. The uremic state of CKD can be toxic to stem/progenitor cell types, including endothelial and mesenchymal cells. This affects their differentiation and angiogenic capacity. Recent studies have shown that the specific abnormalities caused from non-inherited diseases are often present in induced pluripotent (iPSC-derived) products obtained from patients. It is therefore essential to assess first whether iPSCs derived by patients with CKD caused by non-inherited diseases (CKD-iPSCs), have the capacity to generate kidneys.
