Imagine playing chess with a computer. Each move, each strategy, is dictated by an algorithm. Rule-based systems are the first stage of AI. These systems are great at tasks that have clear rules, such as diagnosing mechanical problems or processing tax returns. They are incapable of learning or adapting, and they can only make decisions based on the rules that have been provided.
