Explore the unusual quadruple helix structure of DNA and its link to rare Aging Syndrome

A DNA structure called the \”Quadruple Helix\” may be responsible for a rare aging syndrome

Double-helix DNA is almost synonymous, but that’s not the only way to squeeze long strands genetic information into a small space.

When a DNA double-strand doubles on itself, or attaches with another double-strand it can create a quadruple stranded knot known as G-quadruplex.

Scientists first discovered these ‘double-double-helixes’ in living human cells in 2013, and in the years since, these knots have been found in high concentrations in cancerous cells.
