Robots can help humans in 6 different ways, from magnetic slime to robotic dogs.
There are also rugged, small vehicles equipped with cameras and sensors which can climb over obstacles and search within rubble. Teledyne FLIR in Oregon, the United States is a specialist in sensing technologies. They used robots similar to these in June 2021, when a tower partially collapsed near the Miami suburb Surfside, Florida.
University teams in Japan are working on another type of robot for search and rescue – an Active Scope Camera, a hose robot equipped with a camera that can be used to search inside collapsed structures. Drones can also be used to help search and recovery teams view disaster sites from the air.
Robots can also help humans with difficult jobs in sewers.
