Superman and woman: Who is the beneficiary of human enhancement?
According to research involving bowheads, it might be possible one day to extend human life to 200 years.
We’ve long been fascinated by the idea that humans can be enhanced, from the Greek demigods to the 20th-century superheroes. But we also worry about the negative effects. In both Greek mythology and modern comics, and on television, every enhanced human was flawed in some manner.
For example, in the field of longevity enhancement, Tithonus shrank and shriveled to a grasshopper because his immortal girlfriend Eos forgot to ask Zeus for eternal youth. Achilles was super-strong and agile but had a weakness at the backside of his heel. Superman’s power would be lost if he were exposed to \”kryptonite\”. Khan’s people were overly ambitious because of their superior physical and mental strength. This led to a third-world war in Star Trek, which nearly destroyed humanity.
Real-life human improvement is becoming more and more possible. The idea that enhancement is a two-edged blade will remain in the conversation, just as it did with fictional examples. The road to enhancement is paved with advancements that will benefit the sick and disabled, however, since enhancement involves manipulating the human physiology, which is the basis for consciousness and self awareness. When we consider the pros and cons of various enhancement categories, this point should be at the forefront. This includes physical ability, mental function and lifespan.
