A Methionine-Restricted Diet May Slow Aging
Researchers at Penn State College of Medicine are convinced that the benefits of a diet low in sulfur amino acids for animals could be replicated in humans. The concept of dietary sulfur amino acid restriction has been of interest to researchers for almost 30 years when the first studies showed health benefits in animals placed on methionine-restricted diets.
Methionine, cysteine and other sulfur amino acids are building blocks for all proteins. They are essential for the creation of various proteins in the body and play a role in metabolism.
