Multiple chronic diseases can be prevented by tackling ageing.
Although multimorbidity is different for every person, we do know that the majority of patients suffer from similar groups of illnesses — called \”clusters\”. It is possible that clusters may have a common cause. Multimorbidity can include heart problems, diabetes and other conditions. These may be caused by the same factor, such as obesity.
By identifying and treating the causes of a patient’s disease clusters, we can more effectively treat several — or all — of their diseases with a single therapy. It would reduce both the number and type of medical appointments that a patient needs to make, as well as the amount of medication they need to take.
Multimorbidity is most likely to develop when you are older.
