Frozen Tardigrade Reborn After 30 Years Produces Healthy Babies

A Tardigrade that was frozen for 30 years has been brought back to life.

Researchers in Japan have brought back to live a tardigrade which had been frozen for over 30 years. It has since produced 14 healthy babies. This is a world record breaking feat, as the previous record for reviving an ice-cold tardigrade was 9 years.

Researchers also defrosted an egg collected in 1983 and frozen along with the tardigrade. Not only did it hatch a healthy baby six days later but it produced offspring.

A team of scientists from Japan’s National Institute of Polar Research has brought a frozen Antarctica tardigrade back to life, with all its reproductive organs intact.
