G7 calls on adoption of international standards for AI
TOKYO (Reuters), May 20 — Leaders of G7 nations called on Saturday for the adoption of international standards for artificial intelligence (AI), as legislators of rich countries focused on the new technology.
The G7 leaders in Hiroshima in Japan acknowledged that there may be differences in the ways in which they achieve \”the common goal and vision of trustworthy AI\”, but in a press release, they stated that \”the governance in the digital economy must continue to evolve in line with democratic values\”.
The agreement comes after the European Union, represented at the G7 summit, moved closer to passing legislation this month that would regulate AI technology. This could be the first comprehensive AI law in the world.
