We will begin by citing some shocking data.

According to the World Health Organization, there are approximately 1 billion migrants around the globe today. There are 258 million international migrants and 763 millions internal migrants. This is one seventh of the global population.

The world has 68,000,000 internal and international migrants who are forced to move. The rapid growth of population movements has significant public health implications. This requires a response from the healthcare sector, as many refugees and migrants lack access to medical services and financial protection.

In addition, even though we have only been in the 21st Century for 20 years, this century has already seen many major epidemics. The old diseases such as yellow fever, plague, cholera and plague have all returned, while many new ones, including SARS and pandemic flu, MERS and Ebola, have also emerged.
