Google Accelerates Artificial-Intelligence Makeover of its Search Engine

Google is giving its dominant search engine an artificial-intelligence makeover

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) — Google on Wednesday disclosed plans to infuse its dominant search engine with more advanced artificial-intelligence technology, a drive that’s in response to one of the biggest threats to its long-established position as the internet’s main gateway.

Google’s gradual change in the way its search engine works is being rolled out three months after Microsoft Bing started using technology similar to the artificially intelligent ChatGPT chatbot, which has been creating one of Silicon Valley’s biggest buzzes ever since Apple launched the first iPhone sixteen years ago.

Google, owned by Alphabet Inc. has already been testing Bard, its own conversational bot. This product, which is powered by the same technology as ChatGPT called generative AI, was only available to those who were accepted onto a waiting list. Google announced on Wednesday that Bard would be available in over 180 countries, and other languages besides English.
