Human trials for a genetic jab that allows blind mice to see again
After positive results with blind mice, a gene therapy to restore the sight of elderly people is now being tested for the first on humans.
Scientists said it could be used for treating age-related macula degeneration. This is a condition that affects many people, usually in their 50s or 60s.
This involves injecting a modified viral vector into the eye once. This modified viral vector contains a synthetic gene which produces a protein critical to the perception of light.
