Hypoint launches UK hydrogen cell unit for eVTOLs and other aircraft
Hypoint, a Silicon Valley-based innovator of hydrogen fuel cells, has opened a new UK facility to accelerate the development of its aviation power technology. The unit will also be used to prepare for the launch of services.
HyPoint’s technology uses compressed air to cool and deliver oxygen to its fuel system. It is lighter, cleaner, has a longer life span, and can fly seven times farther than other chemical and lithium-ion batteries. These attributes are encouraging developers of drones and eVTOL vehicles to seriously consider hydrogen cell technology as a driver for their vehicles, especially in light of the global effort to reduce carbon emissions. In 2018, the aviation sector accounted for 2.5% of global CO2 emission.
