John Lewis to End Age-Related Diseases in 2019

John Lewis, of Oisin Biotechnologies, discussed senolytics. These are drugs that kill cells in senescence. He explained the differences between healthy and senescent cells along with the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) responsible for systemic inflammation. He explained in detail what his company is looking for when developing senolytics, including suicide genes and biomarkers. He discussed the challenges of bringing these drugs into human clinics and suggested that oncology could be a way to do so.
