Are your data scientists aware of the \”why\” behind their work?
Data science is not a new concept. The failure rates for big data and AI projects are still alarmingly high. Companies have not yet cited the contribution of data science to the bottom line, despite all the hype.
Why is that? Many companies do not engage data scientists in the softer but more difficult work of understanding business problems, building trust with decision makers, explaining results in simple and powerful ways, or working patiently to address any concerns of those affected.
To get the most out of their data science program, managers must take four steps. Clarify your business goals and track progress towards them. Hire data scientists who are best suited for the challenges you face, and involve them in your daily work. Third, insist that data scientists are accountable for the entire process of their work. Last but not least, data scientists must be taught to teach others both within their department and throughout the company.
