Mayo Clinic Discovers Promising Results in a Human Trial of Anti-Aging Senolytics

Mayo Clinic Presents Senolytics for Anti-Aging

One of the most prominent anti-aging proposals is to remove harmful zombie senescent cellular fragments from the body. These cells are old, tired and have stopped dividing. Animal data has been gathered to support this hypothesis, and the Mayo Clinic now has results of a human trial that suggest they may have discovered drugs that do the same.

The main purpose of the Phase I trial was not to demonstrate the effects of reducing the number of senescent (old) cells in the human body. However, the researchers wanted to show that senolytics, which were used in animal studies, could also be used in humans. \”There hasn’t been a direct demonstration that senescent-cell clearance can be achieved by senolytics in peer-reviewed human clinical trials,\” wrote the authors in EBioMedicine.

In this trial, 9 patients with chronic kidney disease caused by diabetes were treated for 3 days with dasatinib. The drugs cleared the participants’ systems within a few short days. However, the effects continued. According to the authors, \”Key markers for senescent cells burden were reduced in adipose and skin biopsy samples taken from the subjects 11 days following the completion of the 3-day course D + Q as well as key circulating SASP factor, compared with before administration of these drugs.\”
