Microrobots and Medical Treatments: New Frontiers in Treatment

One day, medical’microrobots’ could treat bladder diseases and other human ailments

The University of Colorado Boulder’s team of engineers has developed a new class of tiny self-propelled robotic vehicles that can move through liquids at high speeds. They may even be able to deliver drugs in the future.

Researchers describe their mini healthcare provider in a paper that was published in Small last month.

\”Imagine if nanorobots were able to perform certain tasks within the body, like non-invasive surgery,\” said Jin Lee. He is the lead author of the research and a researcher at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Instead of cutting the patient’s skin, we could introduce the robots into the body via a pill, or injection, and have them perform the procedure on their own.
