MIT Multi-Robot Mapping sets New \”Gold Standard\”.

This article is part our exclusive IEEE Journal Watch Series in partnership with IEEE Xplore.

Is your robot able to tell you where it is? Does your robot know where it is? Are you sure? Are you sure? This is very important. It is so important that some say multirobot simultaneous mapping and localization (SLAM), is a critical capability for obtaining timely situational awareness across large areas. Those roboticists are a group from MIT who have just won the IEEE Transactions on Robotics Award for Best Paper 2022. The award was presented to them at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (2023) in London. Congratulations!

Reviewers and editors voted for the 2022 IEEE Transactions on Robotics Best Paper Award, which was presented to Yulun, Tian, Yun Chang Fernando Herrera Arias Carlos Nieto-Granda Jonathan P. How and Luca Carlone of MIT, for their paper Kimera-Multi : Robust Distributed Dense Metric-Semantic SLAM For Multi-Robot Systems.
